The Next meeting of the Herts Society Writers Group will be 7.30 pm Tuesday 13 February, Tavistock Room, Sun Hotel, Sun Street, Hitchin SG5 1AF
Allan Esler Smith, a founding member of Herts Society Writers Group and author of the recently published Good Retirement Guide 2018 will be hosting the event. As a chartered accountant and tax advisor Allan is sticking to familiar ground with a ‘numbers night’. So the group will be discussing and sharing their knowledge around the following:
Increasing authors income which could include: royalties, percentages for paper copies/ ebooks, pence per word writing- magazines and papers, orphan titles that could be re-released; ALCS, PLR, TV and film rights.
Downsizing costs which could include: self publishing, agent's fees, accountant's fees, deductible expenses and taxation.
This is all very topical as ALCS shines a light again on ‘what words are worth’ with another survey following on from their 2014 work which highlighted authors earnings had fallen about 40% since 2005 to a median £11,000. So it looks like a topical, profitable and enjoyable evening. Society of Author members welcome.
