Video calling software such as Skype and Facetime now make it possible for authors to directly interact with young readers all over the world without leaving their home or office. Learn how to video call effectively with schools and deliver engaging and entertaining virtual readings and chats.

Author Jonathan Emmett has Skyped worldwide with over a hundred schools in the last four years. Schools and library services have described his Skype sessions as ”amazing”, “awesome” and “inspiring”.

Topics covered include how to:

  • Set up and manage Skype and Facetime accounts.
  • Prepare for a video call session.
  • Make the most of using a webcam and microphone
  • Publicise Skype and FaceTime sessions to schools in the UK and beyond.

Jonathan Emmett 
Jonathan has written over fifty children’s books and his work has been translated into over 30 different languages. As well as writing picture books he also writes and paper-engineers pop-up books. His books have won several awards including the Red House Children’s Book Award for Pigs Might Fly and the Sheffield Children's Book Award for The Pig's Knickers.

Audio Tickets
We are offering limited remote access tickets (audio only) for members outside London who are unable to attend. Participants can listen and email questions during the event, but we will need to liaise with you in advance to arrange the technical details. Please book as normal and you will be sent further instruction.
