Ruth translates fiction and non-fiction from German, and teaches translation at the University of Kent.

Recent books include Bettina Stangneth's Eichmann Before Jerusalem: the unexamined life of a mass murderer, which was a New York Times notable book of 2014; Hubert Wolf: The Nuns of Sant'Ambrogio; and selected essays by Hannah Arendt for the volume Essays in Understanding II. She also helps to run the Emerging Translators Network, and organised the network's first conference in 2014.
