Eligibility

The SoA is here for professional authors at all stages of their careers, whether starting out or already well established. We also represent all types of authors: writers of all kinds, working in all genres and mediums; literary translators; and illustrators.

There are two types of membership with different eligibility criteria. Members are established professional authors. Associates are those at an earlier stage in their career, perhaps with an agency agreement or an offer of a contract.

Associates are entitled to the same benefits as Members but are not eligible to vote nor to stand for or serve on the Council, the Management Committee or other committees.

These criteria are guidelines only and all applications are judged individually. If you are at all unsure, please take our eligibility quiz or contact the Membership Department

Becoming a Member or Associate is subject to election and conditional on payment of subscriptions at the applicable rate.
