13:30pm - 14:30pm Ben Crystal, author of Shakespeare on Toast
This is less of a talk and more of a performance. Ben Crystal makes sense of Shakespeare by putting him back into context. Including an exploration of Elizabethan theatre and what a trip to a Shakespeare play in 1600 would be like, a masterclass on the poetry style Shakespeare wrote in, and a look at Original Pronunciation (the accent Shakespeare would have used). See:www.shakespeareontoast.com
Ben Crystal was shortlisted for the 2010 ALCS Educational Writers' Award. He co-wrote Shakespeare’s Words (Penguin 2002) and The Shakespeare Miscellany (Penguin 2005) with his father, David Crystal, and websites for these books can be found via The Shakespeare Portal.
His latest Shakespeare project can be found here: www.passioninpractice.com
