We are delighted to announce that Rebecca Applin, Kate Ferguson and Susannah Pearse have won the Bernard Shaw Musicals Competition for their musical based on The Devil’s Disciple.
The three writers win a commission fee of £3,600 and will now be invited to develop their work into a full draft which will be given a workshop production at RADA.
The Bernard Shaw estate, represented by the Society of Authors, teamed up with Mercury Musical Developments and RADA to launch a competition in search of a new musical based on a Bernard Shaw play, a potential rival to My Fair Lady, Lerner and Loewe’s triumphant version of Shaw’s Pygmalion.
The other shortlisted entries were:
- The Devil’s Disciple – Book, Music and Lyrics by Andrew Brinded
- The Devil’s Disciple – Book and Lyrics by R.C. Staab, Music by Daniel Sturman
- Man and Superman – Book, Music and Lyrics by Barnaby Race
