Entries are now invited for the German Embassy Award for Translators 2012.
Submission deadline: 31 January 2012.


The aim of this award, which provides a unique opportunity for literary translators working in the UK, is to promote and develop German-English translation in the United Kingdom. The award is generously sponsored and supported by the German Embassy and the Goethe Institut, London and is administered by the Society of Authors.
This year, applicants are asked to translate the extract from the novel Das Geschenk by Wolf Wondratschek. Please click here for the entry form and extract. Guidelines and eligibility criteria can be downloaded by clicking here.
The winner will be announced in late February 2012 and will receive a prize of one month at the Literarisches Colloquium Berlin (LCB) with 1,000 Euros spending money together with a visit to the Leipzig Bookfair (15-18 March 2012).

The German Embassy Award for Translators 2010
Samuel Pakucs Willcocks won the 2010 Award for his translation of an extract from the novel Du bist zu schnell by Zoran Drvenkar (Klett-Cotta, 2003). The winning translation can be downloaded here. The runner up for the 2010 award was Jamie Lee Searle.
