The Imison and Tinniswood Awards 2011

1 February 2012

Winners announced at the inaugural BBC Audio Drama Awards, hosted by David Tennant and presented by David Edgar.

Congratulations to all winners and runners-up: Rosie Cavaliero, Lucinda Mason Brown and David Chilton, Jessica Dromgoole, Tim Fountain, Hugh Hughes, Mary Peate, Andrew Scott, Brian Sibley, David Tennant et al.

The Imison Award 2011

The Imison honours the best original script by a writer new to radio, broadcast in 2010. The winner is:

Amazing Grace by Michelle Lipton

The judges said:

‘Michelle Lipton made it easy to picture the unfolding scenes in your head, and to bring the characters and their worlds to life.  Grace is a great character, and it was a pleasure to spend five beautifully structured episodes with her.’
 
We offer our congratulations to the runners-up:

  • Atching Tan by Dan Allum  (repeated R4Extra Thursday 9 February, 11:15)
  • The Pursuit by Matt Hartley
  • The Barber and the Ark by Marcia Layne (repeated R4Extra Friday 10 February, 11:15)

The prize of £1,500 is donated by the Peggy Ramsay Foundation and is judged by members of the Society of Authors’ Broadcasting Committee: Alison Joseph (Chair), Mike Bartlett, Lucy Caldwell, Nazrin Choudhury, Christopher William Hill, Karen Liebreich, Sue Limb, Karl Sabbagh, John Taylor and Colin Teevan.

The Tinniswood Award 2011

The Tinniswood honours the best original drama script broadcast in 2010. 

The winner is:

Gerontius by Stephen Wyatt 

(repeated R4 Wednesday 8 February, 14:15)

The judges said:

‘...we had no doubt that the outstanding fluidity and intelligence of Gerontius, the haunting near-perfection of it, could warrant a second Tinniswood award’.

Special commendation went to: 

Sarah and Ken by Rebecca Lenkiewicz

The judges said:

‘Sarah and Ken is a bold piece of radio drama... it is sensitive and poetic... Rebecca Lenkiewicz has written a powerful play which is profoundly moving.’

We offer our congratulations to the runners-up:

  • The Climb by Andrea Earl
  • Setting a Glass by Nick Warburton (repeated R4Extra Wednesday  8 February, 11:15)

The prize of £1,500 is donated by the Authors’ Licensing and Collecting Society, and the judges were Robert Bathurst, Paul Donovan and Nell Leyshon. The Award was established by the Society of Authors and the Writers’ Guild of Great Britain and is administered by the Society of Authors.

The deadline for entries for the 2012 awards is 10 February.
