Radio Forum & BBC rates

The Radio Forum Group comprises the  Broadcasting Group of the Society of Authors, the Writers' Guild of Great Britain and the Personal Managers' Association

Rates for published material and Radio Drama Agreement Minimum Rates increase annually in August. These rates are from 1st August 2008.

 Radio Drama Agreement Minimum Rates

Beginners' rate: £55.83 (2 tx)

Society of Authors/Publishers Association Published Material Rates

Television

The Society and the Publishers Association have signed a new agreement with the BBC, setting out revised terms for a non-exclusive licence for the use of extracts of literary and dramatic material on television. As part of the above negotiation, the BBC has agreed to increase the rates for television as follows:

Prose (per minute)         £29.03 (from £28.46)

Poetry (per ½ minute)     £34.83 (from £34.15)

Poetry (per ½ min)           £16.86 (from £16.53)

Features

From 1st August 2008 – 1st August 2009 features are commissioned at a minimum rate of £40.65 per minute with a baseline threshold of £284.55.

Some producers offer authors a lower non-edit rate of £31.87 per minute with the reasoning that authors are required to submit a fully edited programme. This has not been negotiated with the Society/Guild/NUJ representatives.

Talks

From 1st August 2008 – 1st August 2009 talks are commissioned at a minimum rate of:

  • Script and Read: £21.22 per minute with a minimum fee of £42.42.
  • Script only £16.44 a minute with a minimum fee of £32.88.
  • Daily Rate reporting £117 per day. Minimum fee of £58.50 per half day.
