"Michael Green is a writer and Professor in English and Creative Writing at Northumbria University, Newcastle upon Tyne. Prior to joining Northumbria, he was Senior Professor and Head of English at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, Durban, South Africa, and Head of the university├óÔéÔäós School of Literary Studies, Media, and Creative Arts. He relocated to Northumbria University in September 2009 with the aim of returning to researching, teaching, and writing. He has been inducted into the Society of the Fellows of the University of KwaZulu-Natal in recognition of distinguished academic achievements. He has published many academic articles and chapters in scholarly books, mainly on the uses of history in fiction. This is the subject of his book Novel Histories: Past, Present, and Future in South African Fiction. As Michael Cawood Green he has published two works of historical fiction: Sinking: A Verse Novella and For the Sake of Silence, awarded the Olive Schreiner Prize for Prose. "
