"Biog: Born in Malta and christened in upturned bell of a ship. Grew up in the Far East, Britain and Scandinavia. For five years wrote a monthly review column for the Guardian. He has also written for The Times, The Telegraph & The Independent. Felaheen, the 3rd of his novels featuring Asraf Bey, won the BSFA Award for Best Novel. As did End of the World Blues, about a British sniper on the run from Iraq and running an Irish bar in Tokyo. The Fallen Blade, set in an alternate 15th-century Venice was published in US in Jan 11 & UK and Aus in Feb 11. He has finished The Outcast Blade, his second book in the sequence, & started work on the third. His work is published in French, German, Spanish, Polish, Czech, Hungarian, Russian, Turkish, Japanese, Finnish & American, among others He is married to the journalist and novelist Sam Baker, currently editor-in-chief of Red magazine.
