Matthew David Scott was born in Manchester, England. He lives in south Wales and has published two novels to date: the Dylan Thomas Prize long-listed, Playing Mercy (Parthian, 2005), and The Ground Remembers (Parthian, 2009).

A founder member of the award-winning theatre company Slung Low, Matthew has had his work produced by many of the UK’s leading theatres including the Barbican, the Almeida, the Lowry and Liverpool’s Everyman. He has been a recipient of a Literature Wales Bursary and shared in the 2008 Oxford Samuel Beckett Theatre Trust Award with his fellow Slung Low members. He is a member of The Welsh Academy.
